Stone Soup Membership Process

All members have equal decision-making power. There are no age requirements to be a member.

To become a member someone must complete one of the following:
a) Attend 2 general meetings in a 3 month period
b) Be active in a working group for 3 months
c) Volunteer 15 hours with a Stone Soup project or at the community space in a 3 month period
Any of the above without showing undemocratic behavior, causing disruption, or going against our mission, vision and values in this 3 month period.

All new members must also:
– agree with our mission, vision and values.
– pay a $20 membership fee or volunteers 5 hours with Stone a Soup project or at the community space
– “rock a hangout” / do an orientation with an current member
– be welcomed and introduced in a general meeting

Criteria to maintain membership (membership responsibilities)
To remain a member one must do ALL of the following in a one-year period:
– pay a $20 membership fee
– volunteer 15 hours
– attend at least 2 general meetings
or be active in a working group (or the community space group)

COOKS: Cooperatives/Organizations/Occupants of space/ Kitchen Users /Shareholders who use the building regularly:
– One person from each group, must become a member
(member liaisons can only represent one COOK)

Membership Removal Process:
A members who does not fulfill membership responsibilities, breaks the central mission, vision or values may lose their membership by a general meeting decision (member in question cannot block decision)

Conflict Resolution Process:
– one member from each point of view involved in a conflict, and members who are involved form a committee who meet to work out a resolution
– committee may use trained mediators
