Our next movie is: Buterfly

” La lengua de las mariposas” (the tongue of butterflies) is the story of an extraordinary relationship between Moncho, a young boy beginning school and the compassionate school master who teaches him courage and exposes him to the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Placed in a Spanish pre-civil war scenario.

This Thursday 26 at 7 PM:

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

The movie is a great introduction to Almodóvar’s world: an outsized, farcical, candy-colored swirl where manic lovers, terrorists, and druggies all implode in on one another and drag us along for the laughs.

Our traditional Thursday film series present this July 19 at 7 PM:

Children of Heaven

Children of Heaven (Persian: بچه‌های آسمان) is a 1997 Iranian film. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998. It deals with a brother and sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes, while also touching upon the more serious subject of the political situation in Iran as well as class differences between the rich and the poor and daily urban life.

“Latcho Drom is a cinematic survey of Gypsy music from several countries.
It is touching, sad and joyous. Most of the segments appear to be
completely unstaged, unrehearsed. The music, ranging from the sensual
flamenco music of the Spanish Gypsies, to the melancholy music of the
Central European Gypsies, is exquisite. If you love Gypsy music, you’ll
find Latcho Drom absolutely beautiful.”

STONE SOUP’S THURSDAY FILM SERIES PRESENTS

NEXT THURSDAY * JULY 5* 6PM

“ THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS”

This is a quote from Chris Gardner: “Don’t ever let somebody
tell you you can’t do something…You got a dream, you gotta
protect it…if you want something, go get it. Period.”
This film is based on the true story of Christopher Gardner, a
family man struggling to make ends meet. Although the film
takes some liberties with Gardner’s actual story, it is all about
real life struggles and the ability to overcome them. The movie
starsWill Smith as Chris Gardner and Smith’s real-life son
Jaden Christopher Syre Smith. Chris Gardener barely has a
job, almost loses his son, is kicked out of his apartment, and is
continually struggling to pay the bills, all while trying to
protect his son. At one point they even seek shelter in a public
restroom!
Let’s share this inspiring movie with neighborhood families!
Children are welcome!!!!

Our weekly film will be this time:

The official story

It shows the effect of the “Dirty War” on different echelons of Argentine society. This is a “must see” for anyone interested in Latin American culture and history. It is still an ongoing issue in the countries that were part of the “operación codor”.

Download our new flyer with the open hours and goings-on at Stone Soup! Print one out and post it up in a public spot, help us get the word out.

Our next weekly film :

The motorcicle diaries

will be held on Thursday 21, at 7 PM.

It tells the story of a journey by motorcycle across South America in 1952 by young Ernesto “Fuser” Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado. Guevara later became the famous Marxist revolutionary better known as Che Guevara, and the film depicts the gradual development of his political outlook, but his revolutionary exploits are not mentioned except in a caption at the end.

The film is based on the books Diarios de motocicleta by Guevara, and Con el Che por America Latina by Alberto Granado. Guevara is played by Mexican actor Gael García Bernal, and Granado by the Argentine actor Rodrigo de la Serna.

Directed by Brazilian director Walter Salles and written by Puerto Rican playwright José Rivera, the film was an international co-production between production companies from Argentina, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Chile, Peru and France.[1]

The film’s executive producers were Robert Redford, Paul Webstera, and Rebecca Yeldham; the producers were Edgard Tenenbaum, Michael Nozik, and Karen Tenkoff; and the co-producers were Daniel Burman and Diego Dubcovsky.

Is free but we acept donation.

June, Thursday 14 at 7 PM we are going to share this documentary film:

BirdSong and Cofee, a Wake-Up Call

Coffee drinkers will be astonished to learn that they hold in their hands the fate of farm families, farming communities, and entire ecosystems in coffee-growing regions like Costa Rica. In this film we hear from experts and students, from coffee lovers and bird lovers, and-most importantly-from coffee farmers themselves. We learn how their lives and ours are inextricably linked, economically and environmentally.
