This Thursday 26 at 7 PM:

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

The movie is a great introduction to Almodóvar’s world: an outsized, farcical, candy-colored swirl where manic lovers, terrorists, and druggies all implode in on one another and drag us along for the laughs.

Our traditional Thursday film series present this July 19 at 7 PM:

Children of Heaven

Children of Heaven (Persian: بچه‌های آسمان) is a 1997 Iranian film. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998. It deals with a brother and sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes, while also touching upon the more serious subject of the political situation in Iran as well as class differences between the rich and the poor and daily urban life.

“Latcho Drom is a cinematic survey of Gypsy music from several countries.
It is touching, sad and joyous. Most of the segments appear to be
completely unstaged, unrehearsed. The music, ranging from the sensual
flamenco music of the Spanish Gypsies, to the melancholy music of the
Central European Gypsies, is exquisite. If you love Gypsy music, you’ll
find Latcho Drom absolutely beautiful.”

“ THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS”

This is a quote from Chris Gardner: “Don’t ever let somebody
tell you you can’t do something…You got a dream, you gotta
protect it…if you want something, go get it. Period.”
This film is based on the true story of Christopher Gardner, a
family man struggling to make ends meet. Although the film
takes some liberties with Gardner’s actual story, it is all about
real life struggles and the ability to overcome them. The movie
starsWill Smith as Chris Gardner and Smith’s real-life son
Jaden Christopher Syre Smith. Chris Gardener barely has a
job, almost loses his son, is kicked out of his apartment, and is
continually struggling to pay the bills, all while trying to
protect his son. At one point they even seek shelter in a public
restroom!
Let’s share this inspiring movie with neighborhood families!
Children are welcome!!!!
